The Antioch area remained in the spotlight Sunday, as major media organizations continued their coverage of the Jaycee Dugard case and suspect Phillip Garrido.

On Sunday, the New York Times published a story about the 40-some images shot by English photographer Nick Stern of the compound where, authorities say, Garrido kept Dugard, while a second piece explored how the case may affect a vote Monday that the California Assembly is scheduled to take on prison reform. That vote would save money and parole more prisoners early.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Times weighed in with a story on the Antioch area's high concentration of sex offenders.

According to the New York Times story about the photos, the images were published Sunday in The Sunday Times of London, The New York Post and some web sites. Based on an interview with Stern, a photographer from Los Angeles, the New York Times said he jumped a fence Friday and "did not consider the lot — which was surrounded by a fence and dotted with trees — a crime scene."

In its story about the Assembly vote Monday, the New York Times reports that the Garrido case highlights critics' concerns about a proposal to reduce the state prison population by 27,000. That plan would mean $1.2 billion in savings, a move the Legislature is considering to trim the California budget deficit.

Earlier, the Sacramento Bee, reporting on the same issue, quoted state Sen.
